Harvesting Supervisor

The successful incumbent will report directly to the Harvesting Manager.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be in possession of a Matric Certificate/Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role within a forestry environment.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification would be an advantage.
  • Must be able to speak and communicate effectively in Xhosa.
  • Should be able to promote effective team spirit by good leadership.
  • Must be organized and systematic in the performance of duties.
  • Must use initiative and be able to find novel ways to deal with challenges.
  • Should have good interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Must be willing to work additional hours as and when required.
  • Required skill set; Supervision, Coaching, Managing Processes, Process Improvement, Tracking Expenses, Production Planning, Dealing with Complexity.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Supervise production staff under your supervision and ensure that they adhere to production procedures and that production targets are achieved.
  • Record daily production performance schedule and report to the relevant people.
  • Supervise the use of company property and equipment under your control.
    • Ensure that all equipment have logbooks and checklists and that these are completed as per the company standard.
  • Ensure the timely maintenance of company equipment under your control.
  • Quality control:
    • Ensure the correct log lengths optimisation is achieved.
    • Ensure that the correct colour code and numbering system is used.
    • Ensure correct processing is done for each log.
  • Assist in production procedures when required, i.e.: log marking, operating machines, etc.
  • Accurate completion of staff time sheets on a weekly basis.
  • Apply corrective disciplinary procedures, fairly and in a progressive manner
  • Monitor and report buffer stock every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning before 9am.
  • Monitor the age of timber stacks and report if timber is 3 weeks or older.
  • Ensure that all safety standards and procedures are adhered to by the team under your supervision.
  • Operate machinery when required.
  • Ensure back-up operators are trained and ready at all times.
  • Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting and training employees, developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Ensure operators and safety personnel are certified at all times.

Sawmill Production Supervisor (Rance Timber)

C.J. Rance (Pty) Ltd, trading as Rance Timber, is based near Stutterheim in the Eastern Cape, and operates two sawmills, namely Kubusi -and Sandile Sawmill.

We are seeking to employ a suitable candidate for the position of Sawmill Production Supervisor reporting to the relevant Department Manager.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Fitter – Kubusi Sawmill (Rance Timber)

Fitter – Kubusi Sawmill

The successful incumbent will report to the Maintenance Manager.

 MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Matric / NTC 3.
  • Completed trade test as Fitter (and Turner, would be advantageous) with Red Seal Experience in the servicing and installation of:
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic equipment;
    • Conveyors;
    • Gear boxes; and
    • Belt and chain drives.
  • Experienced in Sawmill related equipment, would be advantageous:
    • Frame saws, bandsaws and associated equipment;
    • Drum chippers;
    • Debarkers;
    • Planers
    • Finger jointer machine
    • Destacker
    • Boilers
    • Kilns
  • Proven experience as a welder.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment. Sawmilling experience would be an advantage.
  • Experience in machine setup.
  • Medically fit with sober habits.
  • Code EB license with own transport.
  • Willing to work irregular hours and perform standby duties.
  • Regularly working overtime, especially on weekends.
  • Must be able to communicate in English (speak, read & write).
  • Ability to communicate in Xhosa will be an added advantage.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Perform cost-effective mechanical maintenance and repairs on all plant and ancillary equipment in the department.
  • Cost-effective installation of new plant and machinery.
  • Recording of all work performed on plant and ancillary equipment on a time sheet and worksheet.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of all mechanical plant and ancillary equipment on site.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping and total compliance with safety standards within his work area.
  • Performing of overtime work and standby duties as and when required.
  • Assisting with on-the-job training of apprentices and semi-skilled artisans working in the engineering division.
  • Requisitioning of spares and materials.
  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of a planned maintenance program.
  • Be able to record faults, add to planned work list and plan execution of work.
