As an Assistant Engineer/Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work with our Group Engineer across all business within MTO Forestry Pty Ltd based at our Sawmill in George, Western Cape.

DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB

  • Incumbent report to the Group Engineer.
  • Will provide technical support to all production departments.
  • Work in a team with all stakeholders (production personnel, suppliers, and contractors) to initiate, improve processes and solve technical problems.
  • Prepare design layouts, cost estimations and “scope of work” for new projects.
  • Will do own task management, prioritizing, expediting, and overseeing completion of projects.
  • Will focus on process and systems improvements.

  • Is qualified as an Engineer.
  • Has a valid driving license and must be willing to travel.
  • Is a young, dynamic, energetic individual who is directed, has the drive, and is confident.
  • Can work in a team and has very good interpersonal skills.
  • Can initiate action, meet deadlines, and strive to solve problems with innovative and creative ideas.
  • Has a passion for engineering.
  • Has experience of sawmilling, timber processing and related processes will be to his/her advantage but not a requirement.
  • Is willing to be a lifelong learner and evaluate and apply engineering advancements in the industry.

QUALIFICATION

  • Engineering degree B Eng./B Tech (Mechanical or Industrial)

EXPERIENCE – ASSISTANT ENGINEER

  • If the incumbent has no practical experience and has just completed tertiary training, on-the-job training will be provided, and the appointment will be that of Assistant Engineer.
  • Must be proficient in computer-aided drafting programs (i.e., AutoCAD),

EXPERIENCE – ENGINEER

  • A minimum of at least 12 months relevant experience as a Mechanical/Industrial Engineer at a processing or manufacturing company which include but is not limited to:
    • Must be proficient in computer-aided drafting programs (i.e., AutoCAD),
    • Design and layout of manufacturing processes,
    • Working knowledge of preventative maintenance systems,
    • Fundamental knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology,
    • Basic project planning and management,
    • Skilled to do processes and systems improvements through analyzing, designing and implementation using world class manufacturing, continuous improvement, process optimization and other relevant practices,
    • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety legislation,
