Suitable External Candidates are invited to apply for the position of Fitter at White River Saw Mills

Minimum Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Proven Grade 12 School Qualification or equivalent
  • Section 13 Trade Certificate (Completion of N3/N4 minimum)\
  • At least 5 years’ proven saw-mill experience (with contactable references)
  • Sawmilling Experience (including Wet Mill, Dry Mill, Kilns&Boilers and all sections’ related equipment)
  • Good employment history (Contactable references essential – reference checks will be done).
  • Fluent in English as official business language (read, write, speak) (additional languages advantageous).

Job Description, Duties and Requirements:

  • Knowledge of sawmilling equipment
  • Strong on preventative maintenance
  • Experience on identification and sourcing of spares
  • Welding and machining skills required (including working on lathe and milling machines, as well as pneumatic and hydraulic experience)
  • Taking accurate measurements of metal components, ensuring a proper fit
  • Lubricating, measuring, tapping, drilling and polishing components to prepare them for assembly
  • Cutting, bending and affixing equipment such as hydraulic pipelines and welding metal components together as required
  • Proposing procurement of spares for scheduled and corrective maintenance
  • Proposing modifications to schedules for more effective care of assets
  • Attending to breakdowns as requested by relevant staff members as per procedure
  • Inspecting damaged component parts, identifying the deficient components and reassembling it to good working order where possible
  • Completing & handing in job cards subsequently to completing tasks & Ensuring Planned Maintenance sheets are completed
  • Adhering to all safety rules and regulations
  • Reporting any deviation from standard safety practice immediately
  • Proposing changes to achieve greater safety and/or productivity of the operation and maintenance functions
  • Maintaining good housekeeping by keeping work area clean and organised
  • Self-starter with Good problem-solving skills / Fault finding ability
  • Ability to function as part of the Team / Team-player and the ability to successfully manage all facets of the team reporting to him/her
  • Medically fit for the position
  • Proven experience in high pressure, production environment/s
  • Required to work shifts and overtime from time to time (including occasional call-outs and regular stand-by duties)
  • Partake in weekly emergency and/or mechanical standby
  • Required to work in December during Annual Shutdown.
