Operations Manager

DEFINITION

To perform a wide variety of routine Operational related tasks in support of the JGD Pallets & Box Manufacturers and JGD Sawmill group to provide accurate data entry support; and to provide information and assistance to supporting departments with regards to the daily operational requirements of the plant as well as direct reporting to the Director

CHARACTERISTICS

The daily reporting and operational duties that determines the effective and conducive running of the JGD Pallets & Box Manufacturers and JGD Sawmill on a daily basis.

SUPERVISION

To perform work duties with supervision and document, follow-up, report and communicate, information effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

JGD Sawmill:

  • Overseeing of JGD Pallets timber requirements on a daily basis.
  • Daily timber cutting pattern.
  • Daily log stock.
  • Review and assess daily output target.
  • Production stats and closing stock
  • Daily maintenance report evaluation
  • Maintenance forms are documented and assessed when completed.
  • Outsource service providers.
  • Outsource parts when required.
  • Liaise with service providers with regards to machine repairs, service etc
  • Overtime authorisation for sawmill employees when required.
  • Staff queries reported and addressed.
  • Communicate labour issues with HR department
  • Blades, belts and spares inventory recon
  • Blades sent & received from sharpening.
  • Ensure weekly stock take is conducted, assessed and reported.

JGD Pallets:

  • Daily timber requirements to be communicated to the mill
  • Daily timber stock count and verification at JGD Pallets
  • Daily timber allocation for orders put into production
  • Staff allocation
  • Daily Production Planning
  • Continuous Quality Control and checks
  • Production done as per Specification
  • Job cards for work put into production are signed off when put into production
  • Any deviations in product specs are recorded and authorisation given before commencement of production.
  • Pallets are despatched as per delivery requirement
  • Daily Pallets & Tops opening and closing stocks
  • Machine and Vehicle maintenance reports and assigning relevant service provider when/if required.
  • Daily reports at the end of work shift.

OTHER FUNCTIONS EXAMPLES

  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Reporting on a continuous basis.
  • Operation of Hyster when required.
